2003

Obituary from the Houston (Missouri) Herald, April 2003

Ruth E. Smith
Ruth E. Smith, 95, daughter of John B. and Annie Castleman Kaighin, was born Dec. 5, 1907, at Yukon. She died April 25, 2003, at West Vue Nursing Home in West Plains.  She married Robert "Bob" Lee Smith March 26, 1931, in Houston.  Mrs. Smith was employed as a welder in the shipyard in Richmond, Calif., during World War II and later worked in a cafeteria at a school in Richmond.  She was also a devoted pastor's wife for many years at the Eunice Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving in the church and loved her church family. She liked helping others in her community and continually reached out to others in need.  She had a love of gardening and growing flowers. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends and having company and family around no matter what the occasion.  She was preceded in death by her husband Jan. 24, 1982; her parents and one brother, Donald C. Kaighin.  Surviving are one son, Robert Dean Smith of West Plains; two brothers, Luther Kaighin and Frank Kaighin of Longview, Wash.; four sisters, Mary Craig of Summersville, Edna Holder of Houston, Dorothy Kaighin of Cabool and Helen Kaighin, who unselfishly gave her love, time and care for many years; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.  Services were April 30 at the Eunice Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Wright and the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

2004

Obituary from the Houston (Missouri) Herald, March, 2004

Dorothy Kaighin
Dorothy Jean Kaighin, 78, daughter of John B. and Annie Castleman Kaighin, was born June 28, 1925, at Dallas Center, Iowa. She died March 30, 2004, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.  The Kaighins were Yukon area residents most of their life. Her parents died when she was a child, and through the years, she lived with older brothers and sisters.  She graduated from Houston High School in 1943 and worked in the shipyards in San Francisco during World War II. Following that, she worked at Lilly's in Houston, Gracis Grocery in Ellisville and was a long-time employee of C.W. Harry's Department Store.  She was a lifetime member of the Yukon Methodist Church. Visiting with family and friends was most important to her. She was an avid reader and took her role of aunt seriously.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ruth E. Smith; and a brother, Donald C. Kaighin.  Surviving are her brothers, Frank and Luther Kaighin of Longview, Wash.; three sisters, Helen Kaighin of West Plains, Mary Craig of Summersville and Edna Holder of Houston.  Services are 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Moger officiating. Burial will be in the Ozark Cemetery.
