Family	A unique number I have assigned to each family in my database. They are sequenced by date or approximate date of the first marriage.
Corr Family (Corresponding)	Follow this number to the corresponding family either up a generation or down a generation. The first entry in each family grouping is the marriage record. So the Corresponding Family number will be the family that the father of that family came from. A number in the Corresponding Family column next to a child indicates the subsequent family he produced. A secondary purpose of this column is to indicate a continuation or an end of the Kaighin line in that branch. - “UNKNOWN” means no link to the previous generation found. - “Name” means the female married a non-Kaighin male, see the “Spouse” column. I.e., “Carran” means that female married into the Carran family. - “infant”, “child”, “teenager” indicates early death. - “Illegitimate”. If the father is known, his last name will be in the “notes” column if it is not Kaighin. - “no issue”. Indicates no children - “unmarried” – Self Explanatory. - In the case of multiple marriages by a male, there will be multiple numbers like “13500 / 13800” - In the case of multiple marriages by a female, there will be multiple names
Fam Date	The date of marriage if available. If not, then an approximate date prior to the birth of the known first born. If the letter “p” follows the date, this means “prior to”.
First Name	Self explanatory. I’ve conventionalized all names to avoid duplicity and ambiguity. It also helps when sorting the data if all like names are spelled the same. Example, Elizabeth, Beth, Liz, Lizzie, etc., are all spelled Elizabeth. Many times, the same person will have their name spelled multiple ways on different records or events. All variations will eventually be added to either the “notes” column or the “IGI Christian Name Spelling” column. - A side note about the surnames John and Joseph. Prior to about the middle of the 19^th century, I could find no Kaighins in the Isle of Man with the surname Joseph. However there are many entries in the IGI with that name. Without exception, all Josephs prior to 1850 or thereabouts turned out to be Johns. Every one of them had a corresponding entry of “John” in the IGI. This is due to a transcription misinterpretation probably by the IGI transcriber. In early records, John was very often written as “Jo”.

Death / Burial	If I found the date of both events, I always listed the date of death.
Father First	Self explanatory (Surname of father is assumed to be Kaighin. Any variations in surname spelling will eventually be added in either the “notes” column or the “IGI surname spelling” column.)
Mother Last	Self explanatory. There were often multiple spellings of the same surname, so I always used the spelling that was used in the majority for that individual.
Mother First	Self explanatory. Spelling is also conventionalized in this column for sorting purposes.
Spouse	Self explanatory. There were often multiple spellings of the same surname, so I always used the spelling that was used in the majority for that individual.
Location	Location of the event.
Of	Place or Places individual was (or is) known to have lived
Emigration	If emigrated, lists sequence of stops if known.
Notes and Sources	Sources listed here as well as anything else I found pertinent or interesting. As of September 13^th, 2005 I am still annotating my sources in the databases, so all sources are not yet listed. In any web pages I create using the database, all email address have had the “@” removed and replaced with “#”. This hides email address from spam “spiders” that search web pages for email addresses.

This is not the complete mapping of the main branch of Kaighins, it would be too large to fit on one page. Keith’s immigrant Kaighin ancestor was Charles Albert Kaighin and his wife Anne Sayle in family 14500 below. All of the families above that are direct ancestors of family 14500. So I have not included any branching off above this family.

Family 500 links to family 300 in my database but the connection is too circumstantial to consider it valid, so I am omitting it from this pedigree. I intend to further study these early families as time allows, but this may take a couple of years to get to. The primary source for this family is the will of the wife, Eleanor (Carron – or Cannon) Kaighin and IGI entries.
